PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is improving safety and traffic flow on County Road (C.R.) 484 from west of S.W. 20th Avenue to east of County Road (C.R.) 475A. FDOT will also be resurfacing I-75 from the Sumter County line to State Road (S.R.) 200 in Marion County.

This project will add additional turn lanes and extensions at the C.R. 484/I-75 interchange and the C.R. 484/C.R. 475A intersection. Reconstruction of the westbound through lanes and modification of the existing I-75 bridge will be completed to accommodate the widening.

The project will also improve bicycle-lane and pedestrian-sidewalk connectivity throughout the project limits. Other improvements include median modifications and upgrades to the existing traffic signals.

There are two projects associated with these improvements. The other linked project is 443170-1 and will consist of resurfacing I-75 from the Sumter County line to S.R. 200 in addition to reconstructing the existing median crossovers, updating and adding guardrail where necessary. Minor drainage work will take place.

Improvements on C.R. 484 were temporarily paused as the project needed to go through a redesign to better work with the upcoming I-75 Moving Florida Forward project (452074-2) that intersects with this area. Work is expected to resume in late fall 2025 for portions of C.R. 484 at I-75 that will help reduce congestion at the interchange.

FDOT expects to open new exit lanes from I-75 at C.R. 484 in spring 2026. The southbound exit ramp from I-75 to C.R. 484 will have two left-turn lanes and two right-turn lanes instead of the one turn lane in each direction. The northbound exit ramp will have two left-turn lanes instead of one, and the C.R. 484 eastbound turn lane onto northbound I-75 will be extended to allow more capacity.

The planned widening of C.R. 484 is still on hold as FDOT works with local governments to finalize future plans for this interchange.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During construction, motorists can expect frequent single-lane closures during nighttime hours. Signage and traffic-control devices will direct drivers through the remaining open lanes during these closures. Uneven pavement is a common, unavoidable roadway condition with resurfacing projects as the contractor must put down different layers of asphalt during various phases of construction.

Road conditions during construction are short term and will become less apparent as the project progresses. Motorists are asked to exercise caution while driving through the work zone. The contractor will maintain access to sidewalks, businesses and residences during construction.

Lane Closures
  • Sunday, Nov. 2, through Friday, Nov. 7, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Motorists are advised that there will be eastbound and westbound single lane closures on County Road (C.R.) 484 at I-75 for operational improvements.

Lane closures are subject to change due to unforeseen events and weather conditions.

FDOT is committed to building a transportation system that not only fits the current needs of Florida’s residents and visitors but also enhances mobility throughout the state to accommodate its consistent and rapid growth.
