About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is painting and rehabilitating the State Road (S.R.) 401 movable bridges at Port Canaveral. In addition to painting, the three bridges will receive structural steel improvements, bridge deck improvements, and new span lock assemblies. A span lock assembly is a mechanical system that typically holds a movable bridge span in place when fully closed.

Lane Closures
  • Motorists are advised that a continuous closure will be implemented on the Western Bascule Bridge (S.R. 401) from southbound S.R. 401 to westbound S.R. 528 starting as early as Thursday, April 3. The closure is expected to remain in place through July 2025.

The closure is necessary for the rehabilitation of the bascule bridge, including the replacement of the coating system and machinery. The other two bridges will remain open to accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic. Marine traffic may cause the bridges to close temporarily.
