PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is resurfacing U.S. 27 (State Road (S.R.) 25) from County Road (C.R.) 33 to Middlesex Road to extend the life of the existing roadway.
In addition to repaving the corridor, other operational and safety enhancements include adding a southbound right turn lane to C.R. 25A near the Lake County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Support Facility. The plan also calls for the removal of an obsolete section of the “Y intersection” on the west side of the road to improve the connection at C.R. 25A, across from Saxon Road.
The project will also include drainage improvements and the construction of a short segment of sidewalk from the Lakeside Apartments to the existing sidewalk north of C.R. 25A on northbound U.S. 27.
The project also includes milling and resurfacing, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb & gutter, bike lane, sidewalk, and signing and pavement markings on U.S. 27 from CR 33 to Middlesex Rd.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Daytime and nighttime work is possible. During construction, motorists should expect mostly overnight lane closures when needed and possible detours. Electronic message boards and other signage will direct traffic through the work zone.
Uneven pavement is a common condition with projects that require temporary asphalt or resurfacing, as the contractor must place several layers of asphalt over the course of construction. Motorists should reduce speed, heed posted signage and remain alert throughout the work zone. The construction times and days are subject to change due to weather or unexpected circumstances.
